here or anywhere else! I know somebody who's FIAT Uno Diesel outran a Ford Cosworth too! The E430 RWD is not a particularly quick car, especially from a standing start - like many German engines, it's optimised to pull best at higher revs and higher speeds to make it a better Autobahn car. I know a salesman at a used dealership that specialises in M-B, Porsche and Ferrari (those living in Boston Metrowest may know the dealership, it also does extermely high quality restorations), and he has often said that in normal use the 6-cylinder Benz is a better option than the 8 - the 6 is simply a much better car for American conditions. Throw in a few hundred pounds of AWD, and the 430 lags even further behind. I can only conclude that your friend was afraid to go above about 3,000 rpm, or else somebody slipped an E55 motor into your father's car and forgot to tell him.
PS Racing when you have been drinking (especially drinking underage) is for imbeciles.
