is that I think it's unwise to make _any_ structural changes to parts of the car's body that obviously make a contribution to the crashworthiness of the frame as a whole. And that includes sawing a 3" hole in the inner fender. I'm not saying it would be decreasing strength in the event of a frontal crash but as I don not have a crash test laboratory and a few disposable Saabs nor the desire to find out in reality, I can't tell.
If my intake air is a few degrees hotter, so be it :-)
As for cone versus original snorkle set up: it's a trade off. Personally I think the improved throttle response allowed by removing the long, contortionate pipework is well worth what little I may lose at the top end because of hotter intake air. That's why the Gods gave us intercooler fans & water injection... :-)
