They always seem to need adjusting. And the reason it "seems" like solid lifters come with a hotter cam is that there is a duration loss with solid lifters. They have to take up the clearance before there is valve movement. You will need stiffer springs, probably to mill the heads to fit these springs, maybe longer valve stems, etc. All this will result in considerable parasitic loss at lower RPM.
A moderate hydraulic cam will give much better all around drivability, 6-6500 is ok with modern stuff. PS, there is no such thing as a "good" used lifter.
