CFM is cubic feet/minute and MAF is Mass of airflow. One is volume and the other is weight.
I'm not an engineer, but from what I've heard, a hot cubic foot of air will weigh less than a cool cubic foot of air. Its the mass of the air that you need for power, because you're matching up pounds of fuel to pounds of air, and the more fuel/air that you insert into a given volume (cylinder), the more power.
