Keeping heat in the exhaust benefits in two ways:
1) Keeps engine compartment temperatures down, as you mentioned. This is especially good for those of us with open-air filters.
2) Keeps exhaust temperatures high. High exhaust temperatures isn't a good thing, but exhaust that starts out hot and cools down is bad because the density will increase, therefore taking up less volume. This means that not only will the exhaust slow down, but there will be more exhaust mass in the pipe at any given time, which are both obviously bad things.
I was planning on installing Thermo-Tec exhaust wrap on mine, but this aluminum/ceramic coating sounds WAY better than Thermo-Tec so if I can find a source for that, I wouldn't hesitate. Of course, that would be after I install my new turbo & exhaust this summer.
