I have a feeling that they will want to make good on this, perhaps requesting that the broken ends be burnt off and returned for analysis.
You might get the later-stiffer abbott bar this way. Any surface damage or dents at the fracture point resulting as tooling marks from the original forming?

I have seen 3.5" torque shafts blown-up, HT and .5" deep induction hardened to 58C hardness. I told engineering that they would explode when the 170 ton ore haulers hit the spring thaw mud in the Athabaska tar sands, and they failed in numbers. Steel: zero, mud: dozens. How did I know....
