I would put my money on a material or manufacturing defect. They should cover that under an implied warranty. I have had no problems at all with my SAS bars. Both 1", both hollow, both work well together to give me absolutely no body roll (albeit a rather harsh ride...oh, well, that could be due to my lowering springs and konis as well).
Interesting side note: although they are hollow, anyone who knows anything about torsional shear stress knows that the center of a round x-section takes practically no stress--it increases linearly toward the outer radius. Thus, larger and hollow is better than smaller and solid.
