O.K so I want a few answers to my questions. What I really want to know more than anything else is, what kinda hp or mods will I need to build my SAAB into a low 14 second machine. I know that a 86' will do these numbers according to C/D test: 0-60 = 7.7 sec, 1/4 mile = 15.8 sec and top end is about 141-142 mph. I understand the stock car makes 160-165 hp, and 188 or so torque. Mines an 88 model but, very similar I suppose and even with my full Airflow kit the car shouln't be more than 3150 lbs or so. I have done a few mods and consider the car to be faster than it was stock but, not yet at the Aero levels just yet and they are heavier at about another 100 lbs but, they do run about 14.7-14.8 in the 1/4 mile so, I ask what will I have to do to get there and beyond. At this point I have the following mods:
1. Stage #1 spg9 APC (considering trading for #2 but not yet)
2. BB T-body
3. 2.8 FPR
4. K&N filter (cone type)
5. 28lb BLUE Injectors
6. 20 psi BPV
7. New plugs, Magnecore wires 8mm
8. All Silicone hoses(blue)
9. Tons of other new stuff = tie rod ends, ball joints, wheel bearings, A- arm bushings, new lower mounts, upper poly mount, SAS lowering springs, SAS sway bars, New struts/shocks (BOGE),
10. MIM asti 17x7.5 rims with Pirelli P-zero tires sizes 205-45/17's
Nicely tuned and reaching 18 psi most of the time, holding 16-17 of that easily. At this point I'd guess the power to be around or about 210 hp and slightly more torque than that but, not sure about guessing on that one. Currently waiting to receive and install my JT 3" complete exhaust system and high flow cat so, that should net another 15 hp easily. At that time I'll be really close to about 225-230 hp and reaching Aero power levels quickly and taking into consideration my slightly lower weight I'd guess and say my 1/4 time would probably be a little slower than what they run so figure(14.8 sec)however that's still short of the goal of building a low 14 sec SAAB 9000 Turbo. The plan after the exhaust would be to add perhaps a better breathing head(SD Red Head)or the 2.3L swap. Included in this would be a bigger turbo, maybe a T-3 Super 60 trim will do? and then the RRFPR. Those last 3 mods (head, turbo, RRFPR)should put me up there with another 40-50 solid hp for a total of about 265-275 hp and for sure get me close if not beyond the low 14's. I'm making the plans now cause in a few months(fall)I will move further in this direction and really need to collect the input of those that have gotten close to this goal and know first hand what it takes to get there. Thanks,
Phil
