Most drag strips have test-n-tune nights where you can get on the track for $20 to get in as many runs as you can that night. It's always a fun time, each time I've been. Search on Google for a drag strip near you (just type in your town and state, and the words drag racing)
Those times you see in magazines are not just any Joe Schmoe time. Drag racing does require a lot of skill and timing. The best piece of advice: drop the clutch on the second yellow. You won't red light. Trust me!
My recommendations:
Bigger/faster spooling turbo (t/3t4 hyrbid, or t3/Super 60 ball bearing)
34# aero injectors or larger
water injection (see Brad)
RRFPR (Trent Saab; contact me about this)
Forge or similar metal Turbo BPV
Stage II APC
SD Head & Cams
Front wheel drive is your biggest enemy after all of that. You have a great suspension set up now. You might consider something wider for the front for drag racing (and something more narrow in the rear).
Weight plays a huge role (as you hinted). In drag racing, it's all about power/weight ratio. Remove anything that's not a pain in the arse to take out. I remove my spare tire, rear parcel shelf and trunk liner, and any loose crap I have in there.
Have fun, and let us know how it goes. make sure you go test it out as it is now! :o)
