Yes the airbox would be an impediment to flow, IMHO. That was one of the reasons I'm moving to a cone filter in the fender. I don't think the radiator fans are particularly well suited to this intercooler, they are too big (the fan motor itself would almost fill the IC). Someone suggusted junkyarding a tiny fan, like from the radiator of a fiat or the like. I'm not sure a fan would be noticable help at highway speed, but I guess it would probably help for city use. How were you planning on triggering the fan? I was thinking a close-on-pressure switch plumbed to the manifold. I'm pretty sure our shift-up cutout switch can be used (since that system is probably already disabled. it is on my car anyway)
