This has been tried in practice and proven not to work... Posted by Karl [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Not to waste your good mood..., Ryan Lindfield, Mon, 5 Feb 2001 16:00:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have spoken to my "connection" at Saab engine development in Trollhättan about this issue several times.
As Trionic calculates the amount of fuel going in based on a) standard injectors and b) standard FPR, it "knows" the amount of fuel it pumps in at any given time. If you change any of the above (a or b) you have to adapt your software accordingly. Anything else will simply make your engine behave and perform worse than before.
And for a simple airbox mod, there is really no need whatsoever for a RRFPR. Anyone telling you anything else is, IMHO, bullshitting you to sell his parts.
Once we start talking serious mods such as bigger turbo, bigger injectors, 3" all the way etc etc, you may want to consider a RRFPR. But even then it shouldn't be necessary. By then the fuel pump is the biggest bottleneck.
One really has to understand that Trionic is one very, very advanced engine management system. Using conventional tuning approach when tweaking Trionic engines will (most of the cases) just mess things up.
Do your airbox mod, which is a very suitable modification. Then upgrade your exhaust and, finally, get an upgraded ECU that's adapted to the mods you've already done.
But that's all IMHO, and there may be others who claim to know more.
