therefore, all basic upgrades should be bolt on at maximum. but most of the diy tweaking should be there.

once you need to start removing components or making major modifications, you leave the 'basic' realm.

but i guess it all depends on whether basic means easy, or the generally accepted first modifications to do. if this is the case, then you may want to get a good sampling of many different opinions. one or even a few people may have extremely differing opinions on what needs to be done first.

there is also the goal oriented viewpoint (is it seat of the pants based, or hp based?) if hp based, then you need someone to make the modifications and dyno the car, not guess. then others who make the same modifications can expect similar results. if goal oriented, then imho, it would change which changes were made first. for example, if you want 300 hp, then i would say get am aftermarket ecu first, then you can tune as you go and make adujstments along the way. however, if your goal is 200 hp, you can survive with the necessary bandaids and save money. but one person may have gotten to 200 hp without changing from the stock airfilter, while another may have made the change to an open set up. therefore you can't really say that an open filter is necessary first. make sense?

once you start grouping things into categories, you will drive people to use it as a check off list. this can be good or bad. people may use the groups as a goal and finish the list and be done. bad can arise if the groups were randomly compiled. you really want to make sure a lot of thought goes into what the groups are based on and why, and then what goes into each group.

sorry to beat up the point, just my thoughts.

90 900s (still no mods)...:)
