So you're wondering if an increased airflow would improve the efficiency. I'm wondering if any amount of additional air through the IC other than what currently flows would increase it's efficiency. I suppose the only way to really test is with a temp sensor located on the IC output side and tested with a varied range of air flowing through the IC and tested in similar outdoor air temp circumstances.
Here's what I've noticed about that area as it relates to IC air flow. At best there's the lower air dam which deflects air up toward the center of front end and into the openings, that in addition to the air that flows directly through at least half of that gill-like opening. Then there's the design of the headlight housing which has a hole cut in it's rear where displaced air flowing over the surface of the headlight will find it's way around and through that rear hole, which is facing directly into the IC. There's also the air flow bracket found on later year C900T's that attaches to the front engine compartment chassis just to the outside of the headlight which directs all the air entering through the air dam gill opening into the IC (I've installed both an IC and that bracket on my 82T) instead of perhaps only half of the air with the non-bracket design.
Given all that, I've read how the stock IC is just not very efficient as far as performance needs are concerned. The only way I've heard about to effectively increase the stock IC efficiency is to lower the exterior surface temperature with a simple water spray system.
