My engine builder tells me that the old school 3000 mile break-in is no longer required. This was back in the day when rings had square edges - now everything has barrel edges, they fit much more nicely. 1000 miles may be good enough.
I know I know, gas is cheap, engine rebuilds are not. At any rate, 1000 miles or 3000 miles, whatever, it'll be a long haul to get a good map for the SDS. There's a guy in Calgary who put his Scooby 2.5RS on Haltech, with turbo of course. Said it took him like 3 months to get decent fuel mileage and drivability...lots of flames and such - cool...
