are definatly bigger & will flow better than the 85 0r 87 heads Im going to run one soon with the 89 2.0 cams reshape the comb chambers & port & polish itI dont know if I mis understood but it sounds like you were saying the 85 head outflows the 2.1 head & that cant be rite the 2.1 intake ports are obviously bigger.
the erly 16v head had the same shape intake ports using uneven cam profile to swirl & the later had the weard ports to cause swirl but this head cant have flowed as well as the 85 head with even ports
the 2.0 head has even ports that are bigger than the 85 my point being that using later cams of even profile with the erly head should give some improvment in flow but you may have to degree the cams to get it rite I hear the hot setup is the 2.1 NA intake cam degreed to get rid ov an excessive overlap prob but that is hearsay I dont know for sure
