Yeah, you knew what I meant. There's a difference between just having quench and controlled quench, right? The main purpose of the design is to push the combustible gas over the sparkplug so there's a more even combustion. The cloverleaf design in the 85/6 head will have lots of quench but the quench effect doesn't seem controlled. From my perspective the combustion chamber was not designed w/ the quench effect in mind but only that the valves were unshrouded. With the cloverleaf design, I visualize more combustible gases being quenched over top of each individual valve instead of the sparkplug, compared to the pentroof.
From my opinion, I favor the 2.1/2.3 head. You could probably p&p an 85 or 87 head to out flow the 2.1/2.3 head, but that doesn't say much when you can still p&p the 2.1/2.3 head. Sometimes it doesn't really depend on how big the ports are, but how fast they flow. Also, if the 2.1/2.3 head ends up producing too much topend, the cam timing or intake manifold can always be adjusted or replaced.
