Point seems to be that torque goes down as hp goes up, therefore the twist on the trans will be less and the trans is less likely to grenade at the higher hp/lower torque situation.
I dunno....it seems to me that the issue is higher torque at the output end of the transmission....all things being equal unless you get increased torque to the wheels you won't go any faster....higher horsepower at higher rpms don't do you any good unless you can get to the higher horsepower range. You may be able to twist it to 8K, but without enough torque you won't get out of third gear without bogging. Of course, if you can do 140 in 4th at 8K who needs no steenking 5th gear that tops at 120....but the torque output in 4th at say 8k rpm might be enough to fry/break the pinion bracket.
