share with you my thoughts on what I think three critical and important upgrades are. The following items are listed in the order of importance I am putting on them.

1. Aquamist water injection for detonation prevention. With only 92-94 octane gas available to us at the pump here in the U.S., consistent boost levels at 15 psi or above are unlikely especially during the summer. Go to http://www.kcsaab.com and click on the Aquamist icon to read more about how water injection works.

2. A new down pipe coming off your turbo's turbine housing. Since your 1988 uses a Garrett T3(T3 refers to a family of compressor and turbine wheels grouped together by size) turbo, your downpipe will need to incorporate an external wastegate. The ultimate reason for changing your downpipe is that it will alleviate excessive backpressure in the exhaust manifold which is a major HP killer in the current stock setup. For more specific info on what causes the back pressure, search the board as I do not feel like explaining it right now. I can send you pictures of what my personal downpipe looks like.

3. A new intercooler. Many people in the SAAB community have chosen to use the 9000 intercooler because it is an inexpensive upgrade. If I were you though, I would consider purchasing a high flowing unit from Spearco Intercoolers. Some say that the 9000 intercooler does flow well creating a pressure drop.

Make these changes and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Steve
