DIY 5 speed rebuild & pinion bearing replacement.

Tried this on the C900 BB and got no takers.
I am preparing to rebuild the 5spd in my 90T, which has the dreaded pinion bearing death whine. Magnetic plug is clean, only minor fuzz, so I want to nip this in the bud. Car has 130K on the clock (with functional odometer).
I have copies of ROYCE's trans. rebuild pages from the extravaganza, and also copies of the factory manual for rebuilding the 5spd. Of course they refer to many, many custom SAAB tools, etc. From looking at their pics & reading it, seems to me this task should be doable with snap ring pliers, straight & 90 degree, and perhaps a plastic hammer and/or brass shaft for tapping things in & out. They also show a slide hammer with various attachments for pulling this & that out of place.
Anyone here done their own? I know the procedure to remove engine & separate the trans, all looks very doable, but the trans work still raises some questions.
Please advise, those who have been there.
