Brad,
You said you did a leakdown test - did you determine where the compression is being lost?
If it's a headgasket failure, it's probably worth it to stuff another one in there. Of course, you'll want to make sure first the head is not cracked (a fairly rare problem with Saabs). And when doing the replacement, make sure the head is flat and that the block deck is not pitted badly.
If it's leaking past the valves, maybe one just stuck and may or may not be worth fixing (I'd do the complete valve job in any case). OTOH, if a valve stuck badly and hit the piston and got bent, the head may be damaged.
If it's leaking into the crankcase, you've probably got a serious issue. Sudden loss of compression at the lower end is probably a broken ring or cracked piston, which can be nasty to deal with.
