...Now that you mentioned it, this is one of the things that separate the european and US way of thinking and legislation... :=) Here in Europe it is illegal to idle the car for more than two minutes - four minutes if its very cold. Some people have really been fined for this, can you imagine! And since most cars around here are manuals and people tend to leave them parked in gear the remote starter is not a good idea.
But the most important issue - and one of the most important benefits always mentioned in the marketing of these - is that the external heater will preheat the engine making it easier to start (could prove to be impossible in very cold weather when even the synthetic oils are thick like pudding) AND it will preserve as much as one cup of fuel at every start (an actual marketing slogan; rather have one cup more at home). Plus it is ECO-FRIENDLY.
Marketing a remote starter here in Europe would be a suicidal attempt. The tree-huggers would come and trash your office in no time :)
