I'm not sure I would call it antiquated--to my knowledge, all current WRC cars use water injection. I also know for Car and Driver's annual tuner shootout, one of the Corvette tuners was running forced induction with WI.
I run it because I have a c900. The factory intercooler is woefully inadequate when running 18+ pounds of boost. You can fit a larger intercooler with all the work and cost that implies, or for typically less money and a whole lot less trouble fit WI.
At 19 lbs of boost, I had terrible detonation problems. I put on an Aquamist system from Brad and voila--all detonation under 4700 RPM was gone. I'm getting detonation shortly after the injectors hit 100% duty cycle and air/fuel starts to climb from 11:1 to 12.5:1. I hope a new downpipe will fix this by eliminating some back pressure. This has worked for others.
