Paper vs. Cloth vs. Foam air filters......

There is lots of contradicting information about Paper vs. Cloth vs. Foam air filters.
One thing to remember is that an engine can use a certain maximum volume of air at any given RPM to achieve maximum power. If the air cleaner restricts the engine from achieving the required amount of air, then there will be a diminished power output. (Or if the oxygen content of the air too low such as due low air density or heated intake air).
If the air cleaner allows for more that the maximum amount of required air, the extra capacity will be not be utilized. So any filter than allows the engine to obtain the maximum airflow required will allow maximum power. Only if the air cleaner restricts the engine from achieving maximum airflow, will there be a decrease in maximum power.
Since I do not know what the airflow requirements of the Saab 2.0L turbo engine are, I cannot comment on what the minimum airflow must be to prevent power loss. So the issue may boil down to
“How much is the maximum airflow required in the Saab 2.0L turbo engine?” and
“Which filter meets the required maximum airflow while preventing particulates to enter the engine?”.
There are several other areas to take into account when looking at air filters.
Here are just few factors:
1) Intake air restriction when new.
2) Intake air restriction after some period of use.
3) Dust/dirt capturing ability.
4) Attenuation of engine noise.
5) Initial and long term cost.
6) Ease of maintenance.
