So in the BMW E30 test you referenced,
Mahle paper filter = .11" restriction = .0040 PSI
K&N oil gauze filter = .13" restriction = .0047 PSI
Fran paper filter = .23" restriction = .0083 PSI
ITG foam filter = .24" restriction = .0086 PSI
Amsoil foam filter = .37" restriction = .0133 PSI
In terms of the Saab turbo engine with several PSI of vacuum at the airbox (while under boost at least), even the worst of these filters shouldn't provide much of a drop in performance.
Definitely an interesting test and good food for thought.
By the way, in case anyone is interested I use a ITG foam drop-in filter with a 3" inlet modified airbox on my 1998 900SET.
