for autoxing front-wheel-drive cars, dropping rear pressures is one of the most common remedies for understeer problems. saabs are particularly nose heavy and suffer for it.
i have read dozens of posts on autox forums & newsgroups that argue why dropping the pressure works better than raising it. as chris (ludwig? chriswig?? ;-) explains, lower pressures increase the slip angle; you get some built-in oversteer.
regardless, the difference dropping rear pressure makes is obvious: the car rotates nicely, the fronts don't scream in protest and, more importantly, my times dropped.
