I had a stock intercooler with a fan on the car and it worked very well, the fan moved 440cfm and I had it on all the time. I had an intercooler made. I wanted to keep the a/c and did not want to have it hanging below the car. The intercooler is http://www.bellintercoolers.com. I chose a 2.25 thick core with tubes 6" long and a core length of about 20" It flow about 489cfm
This intercooler is a little different in that the flow is through the 6" length not the 20" length so there is less drag. It is mounted just behind the grill. I did not go for the most massive as I drive the car daily and perfer great throttle responce. As for cooling I datta logged the temps last night. 250f exiting the intercooler 116F exiting the intercooler and 74F in the intake manifold after water injection. Boost was 17psi and rpm of 5800.
As a comparison temps logged with a stock intercooler and fan were 300F exit of turbo and 200F exit of intercooler at a higher boost and same rpm.
The most exciting thing about this new intercooler is it lowered my exhaust manifold back pressure, this is where the horse power gains come from.
