I used to have a fan on the standard ic. It was actually a radiator fan from a small Fiat. So the airflow was really good. I replaced it with an IC from a 1995 9000. The plumbing is longer, but not by very much, than stock. If there is any difference in turbo lag (have no way to measure it...)it does not bother me at all. But the difference in performance, especially in warm weather, is like night and day. The IC fan may have helped a little with the stock IC but the difference can't be compared to the front mount ic.
Well, the stock ic - especially with the fan - wasn't too bad. It is just that the front-mount ic is so much better. Personally I would never go back to the old setup.
