there is nothing wrong with lash caps. that said, i wouldn't just go out and buy a set. whoever is doing the cam regrinding should provide the necessary lash caps to achieve the desired result. i would only go with a shop who can do the full job. a good shop will be able to either provide a cam grind from billet, or provide a stock regrind with caps and achieve the same result.
for steve, i got mine from progressive automotive through scanwest autosport in seattle. if you call them and talk with jeff or rob, they can help you out. 888-90-turbo. the idle is changed, it is certainly more lumpy, but does not cause any drivability issues. fwiw, may last dyno run climbed up to max hp and stayed flat until my 7000 rpm redline. the engine would have spun farther, but i am keeping the 7000 rpm cut off for conservatism. so the cams are definitely making a difference above 4000 rpm. i only noticed the difference after i put in the regrinds, on how much the engine feels strained at high rpm on the stock cams. now there are almost two stages in pull. turbo comes on between 2500-3000 rpm and the the cams come on 4000-4500+. pulls nice...:)
