My 88 SPG is also wacko modified and while it does not spend a lot of time "broken," things do tend to break with great frequency. What else would one expect from a 15 year old car that's super tweaked? I have decided that I like this car too much to give up on it, so I'm going to keep it as it is and put up with its crap! I went and got myself a reliable ride yesterday... a 2000 9-5 Aero. Let's see how long I can hold out before I start modifying that! As long as it's my commuter car (to law school, 30+ miles each way, starting in August) then there will be ZERO mods for at least a while.
The C900 can take some abuse, but it requires way more patience than I have to keep it running as a reliable vehicle. My brother is a SAAB mechanic, and I still don't have the patience. I'll keep the SPG around as long as I can, but I won't trust it to take me on trips over 300 miles anymore!
Besides that, we're building an 86 SPG race car right now (gutted the interior this weekend) which WILL have places to go that fast, and it won't break our hearts if we blow it up! That's just part of racing!
You are wise to detune, but to each his own! :o)
Mike
