Someone is thinking left-handed, but it's not me.
The wastegate actuator works by applying pressure to a diaphram that is
preloaded by a spring. When the applied pressure exceeds the spring
pressure the wastegate begins to open. If you plumbed the output of
the turbo directly to the wastegate actuator, the maximum boost would
be
equal to the spring pressure or 'base boost'.
You state "IF you increase the amount of pressure "pushed' throught he
solenoid vacuum line to activate the wastegate, then you end up with more
boost pressure" WRONG. If you increase the pressure on the actuator, you
will open the wastegate reducing the boost.
The restriction you are inserting is an inpediment to fluid flow. Since
there is no fluid flow in the actuator plumbing (the pressure is just pushing
on a diaphram, no air is moving) there is no pressure drop.
If the turbo is "generating the same amount of boost (duh)" How does the
throttle receive more boost? The throttle can only receive more boost if
the turbo is putting out more pressure.
I don't know about your test. Did you measure boost pressure at the manifold?
Was it just a subjective feeling that there was more boost?
Are you sure you did not introduce a vacuum leak in the line to the
actuator when you put in your restriction?
I still maintain that putting a restriction in the vacuum line to the
wastegate actuator will not increase max boost.
