actually, if ou can get your hands on a spare shifter housing for your car, it works best. then you cut off the seat for the shifter, plane it to sit on top of your installed housing, then use the 3 longer screws from the back of the spare housing to secure the shifter and spacer to your installed housing. the last step is to separate the shifter ball from the seat and raise the seat up the tickness of the spacer.

this worked well for me and has held up for the past 2-3 years. that way you already have the seat and notch lined up correctly.
