The 1994+ 2.3 liter cylinder heads offer the best case for flow parameters and, fully modified, will outperform a fully modified 2.0 liter cylinder head due to intake valve size and port dimensions as well as a low short turn radius. Although we can modify exhaust ports to flow the same between the 2.0 liter and 2.3 liter,In some cases, a larger exhaust valve on the 1994+ cylinder heads will provide better turbocharger response and throttle response.
At 650 (thou)lift we find the 94+ modified intake ports/valves flow 233cfm modified as compared to the modified 2.0 liter at 197.34. Due to the multi-anble valve seats and back-cut valves after modifications, maximum flow will be seen at At 400 (thou) with 239 cfm. Overall, the 1994+ cylinder heads will show nearly 10% intake improvement over the early 2.0 liter cylinder heads after full modifications.
In the case of the 1994+ 2.3 liter, You can't do much better than the 1994+ cylinder heads but the pre 1994 applications will find best results with a fully modified 2.0 liter cylinder head.
Thanks for the question and best regards!
