The plane of the ground electrode adjacent to the center electrode was not changed. It was lapped by the side of the cutoff wheel to remove burrs. The cutoff wheel is less than the spark gap.
No taper, just rounded off the end of the ground electrode to match the OD curve of the center electrode. Then removed outboard edges and corners on the ground electrode near the end to reduce the heat transfer and temperatures.
So I was not emulating the undercut that I have seen on the NGK platinum plugs that I have had.
Also no attempt to create a trapozodal cross section, narrower closer to the electrode. I guess that one could combine that with what I did.
The picture also shows another extreme. That might be too much of a change for the DI to deal with.
So my changes were minimal in a way. I did not want to change the basic gap itself... at least for a first step. We can try other things on old plugs and if it does not pan out, nothing lost.
