I have two V1s (for different cars). One is about 6 years old, the other three. They are wonderful. I had a cheap $100 ish radio shack one before that and have observed friends radar detectors - before they got V1s.

Like any detector, if you are alone on the road, they are no protection against instant on.

The directional arrows and bogey counter are nice and purely functional and useful. It's also able to be turned up louder than other detectors which is good if it has to compete with music or wind noise. It's also in a rugged metal case, where most detectors are cheap plastic boxes. It's also more consistent in detection. (picks up shopping center doors at a precise predictable distance every time) You never have to wonder if it's working well today.

It picks up police radar as well as any $400 detector should too.

I figure if it saves me a ticket once, it pays for itself in reduced insurance costs. It has certainly paid for itself a bunch of times.
