I used to drive a nazi wagon, the classic 944 S (16 valve improvement on the 8 valve 4 cylinder head and engine) She was super quick, but my SPG would smoke it by far right now.
My dad has a 1967 911 S, one of the first off the assembly line of the great S series, since 1967 was the first year of the S. When he has it running right, I'd be surprised if I could hang with him in my SPG. 6 Carbs in a car that light (barely over 2k lbs)! Wow.
My family has always been into Porsches, and we are now getting into Saabs! Saabs are much more practical to own, if you can believe that. It helps to have a Saab mechanic in the family! Pops still has 2 928s, including an S4 (32 valve V8, 317 HP, mess with that at your own peril), the 944S and the 911. Of course, now he has a 1991 9000 Turbo, which is his daily driver!
Some Pork-chop owners can be jerkies, and some can be nice. I find this to be true of all people, regardless of what they drive. Not all Saab people are angels, either. Imagine you are him, of course, in his Porsche. He's driving an 85, certainly not a unit fresh out of the showroom. It is still a $15K to $20K car. Now, you come up in your Saab and hang with him, if not beat him on some occassions. He's not going to want to pull you over to shake your hand. From the way you engaged him, it seems he was trying to have fun by himself, and that you ended up chasing him! Porsche owners are very protective of their cars, and he might have thought you were trying to steal his car or something.
Just remember, you engaged him, and in hevay traffic no less. Be careful out there, and save the speed racer stuff for the open roads.
I had a similar experience on a weekend this fall, where a ~1995 Carrera got on it in a 55 mph exit ramp (one of those really long ones connecting two major highways), and I followed him in my SPG. Both of us had our girlfriends in the car with us, so we knew we were going to be hauling it. Testosterone does great things for your car's performance. It was the same cat and mouse game: he'd take off, and I'd hang with him every step of the way, until he left me behind at over 135 mph. This was before I modified my SPG, so I probably could do better when the next time comes. We had fun out there, though. He slowed down and smiled, and waved. Our girlfriends were both obviously pissed at us, but he and I enjoyed ourselves. It is all about the context! Light traffic, bright sunshine. The time was right,
Be safe out there!
