Hey SteveC, i'm just trying to get an intelligent discussion lol. As I stated before, the APC is a good thing but not when your chasing performance (and this is the "performance" forum). The knock sensor is designed to ignore most noises coming from the engine. It does this by various methods, the most popular is that the knock sensor is actually turned off for most of the combustion process and only turns on when detonation is most likely to occur (near TBC on the compression stroke). While this prevents the knock sensor picking up engine noises most of the time, its not a perfect "detonation detection device". The perfect detonation detection device is infact humans. With a stethoscope you can actually hear (and most importantly distinguish) between engine noises and detonation - something that a machine can't do.
