So what measures the temp? Soley the IAT? The reason I ask is that you could very easily measure the resistance and voltage values from the IAT signal wires at that temp , and adding the correct resistors could duplicate that signal all the time(hence making a very cheap ECU upgrade netting alittle more boost) Also has anybody discovered the switch for the tranny which tells the ecu what gear you are in. There has to be a physical switch somewhere, thus fooling it to thinking you are in 3rd gear, should not be that hard.

The T7 system is way to smart to be fooled with tricks that might have worked for your granny:)
ECU will calculate from rpm and speed what gear you are in. If the calutaion will match for 1st gaer then ECU will read DICE to see that you're not in R.
ECU does not use any temp signal to alter boost etc. It is all up to the airmass measured via MAF. If the weather is warmer you will need to boost more to achieve the same airmass flow. Respectively if humidity goes up, boost will go down. At high altitude the air is less dense and there fore the engine needs to boost more there also to achieve the wanted airmass flow.
This airamss measurement is also backed up with intake temp and pressure sensors. With known VE the airmass flow can also be calculated based on these sensor readings. Too large deviation between MAF (actual airmass flow) and intake temp+pressure (calcultated airmass flow) will give you CEL.
