Shoulda added that i am doing this install on a Ng900, tried to do it with the gearbox in neutral. would loosen the the shaft to install the shifter then rotate the shifter with shaft back into position. We then tightened the shaft. When trying to put it in or any bottom gear it seems like its getting stoped short by the shifter before going into gear. metalic clank coming from the shifter or possibly linkage like the shifter is binding or getting stuck. Once i managed to get it into what i believed was 2nd and it got stuck and wouldnt move any more untill we took the whole thing off. when we put the stock shifter back on the process of leaving it in neutral worked fine and we had all gears. I havent checked the line up hole yet though. Could it be that the SS is more sensitive to the alingment of this than the stock shifter?
