I think GM decribed it best by saying it makes the car feel like you think it should have from the factory. It revs much easier from a standing start and first and second gears are noticably quicker. Third maybe but not much change in 4th and 5th. I like to shift fairly quickly and the revs match much better now as the engine spins down quicker once you get out of the gas.
Some people claim light flywheels cause drivability issues and make it harder to start out from a stop, etc. but truthfully I have never stalled it from a stop sign, climbing hills isn't an issue, there is no change in idle quality, I can't say the spool up changed at all. Some claim you need the extra weight to help the turbo spool up but in my opinion the car is heavy enough the way it is. It won't carry a burnout through gears as well as the old flywheel, but we shouldn't be doing that anyway.
I bought it mostly because I needed to step up to the bigger flywheel as my smaller '88 setup was slipping in the higher gears and I found a great deal on mine used. Hope that helps.
