Greetings all,
Thanks to the effects of lurking on this board for many years and
reading the many experiences of the talented tuners out there, I
thought that it would be nice to take my first tentative steps into
making my Saab a little faster. It has only taken me 7 years...
So, I have a few beginner's questions, please excuse the sheer
basicness of them.
My car is a 1988 900 SPG (LH 2.2) which I have just recently gotten
the engine running almost perfectly stock. It boosts to the
yellow/red interface and has no idle problems hot or cold. The last
thing I had done was to replace the AMM to fix a cold idle
problem... which the replacement seems to rectify.
I decided to go with a red series APC box + fuel injectors from SD as
my first step... it seems simple enough, and thence starts my
adventure:
First - installed the APC and ran for a few days with the original
injectors and everything is fine, except that I'm seeing more boost
(boost out into at least 1/2 red)... which is what I was looking for.
Installed the injectors (I think they are 27# ?) and the car started
being a bit unhappy... revs falling to almost stalling and hunting
when cold, with the same behaviour when hot.
Changed them back to the original injectors, when I noticed that the
new injectors were very easy to pull out from the manifold... too
easy, so I checked the size of the o-ring with the oem injectors, and
found that they were a bit smaller.
Everything ran smoothly with the old injectors back in, all idles were
normal, as well as acceleration etc.
Put the new ones back in with a new set of oem sized o-rings. This
time they fit nicely snug into the manifold. I made sure they were
properly seated.
But the car still doesn't seem very happy. I am still experiencing
the cold idle problem (revs fall to almost stalling plus hunting), but
the warm idle problem has gone away to a large extent. In addition,
sometimes when I am accelerating under load, it will hesitate as if it
wasn't getting enough fuel. If I push through that, everything
becomes smooth again (er, I don't do that too often).
So (and thanks to all who have my meanderings to this point), the
question is... is there anything procedural that I should be doing
when I swap my oem injectors for these slightly bigger ones? I assume
that the duty cycle on the injectors should be different, but I was
under the impression that the LH system should compensate for this? Or
am I _completely_ mistaken? Do I require a higher pressure fuel
regulator? Keep in mind that replacing the new injectors with the oem
ones returns the car to normal operation.
Thanks to all who contribute to this board... all I can say is that
I'm very jealous!
V.
