As for the head and turbo, I'd say that the 2.1 and t3-60 from a Ford thunderbird are a good combination. I recently put both these upgrades on my 85 SPG, and so far, even running stock boost, I really like the changed engine characteristics. First off, the power is quite a bit higher in the rpm range, and seems to pull (again, with only 12 psi for now) all the way to 6K, whereas the stock head and turbo set up tapers a lot after 4500. Also, the head lowers compression by a little bit (I've been told it goes down to 8.75 on our 85's), which is ultimately better for more boost. It is a little more doggy off the line and low down in the rpm's, but timing mods will cure that. Another thing that's good about switching heads on an 85 is you get rid of the crappy cam set up. 85's have offset lobes, to 'swirl' the intake air, so you're getting robbed of some power there too. Anyway, I"m not sure about the tranny, but I think that the only difference from S to turbo models are the gearing ratios themselves, not the gears.
