I recently ordered a BSR upgrade kit from Engstrom for my 1999 9-5-SE. I have to confirm that customer service is not their strong point. I initially inquired about the kit through email, but after about a week and no response I called and spoke with Bo. I called late in the afternoon and got through right away. After speaking with him, I was convinced this was the correct kit for me; I like the fact that there was minimal downtime involved in upgrading the firmware in the car, updates are free via the internet, and you can download your original firmware should you need to. BSR will supposedly also customize the firmware for your car should you need it. I then placed an order on the Wednesday (3/23) before Easter. Since I knew from reading this thread that there were delays in receiving shipments from Engstrom I wanted to see how long it would take to receive my shipment without proding them. I quickly surmized that Engstrom did not have stock on hand for my particular unit and that the unit must have been shipped from BSR in Sweden to Engstrom to me, because after nearly three weeks I still had not received my unit! I called on Tuesday of this week (again late in the afternoon) and immediatley got a hold of Bo, who assured me the unit would go out. True to his word, the unit was shipped out on Tuesday and I received it second day on Thursday. All in all not great if you are used to receiving shipments within the same week, but not bad if you consider that the device probably came from Sweden through Engstrom.
About the PPC unit from BSR; I just installed it this week. Everything worked as advertised. Pull a couple of fuses, follow the instructions and 25 minutes later your ECU is upgraded! I only took a short test drive, but my initial driving impressions are the following. The car pulls noticeably stronger in all 5 gears, without any pinging or unwanted noises. I have the complete Aero roadholding kit in my car, which I installed last year, and I get a little bit (acceptable) torque steer with the PPC firmware (none without). I also have a Remus exhaust. I personally wouldn't want any more power in a front wheel drive car. All in all I am satisfied, but I would caution anyone wanting immediate turnaround for their shipment.
