"The MBC/MBC+A really elimates the base boost issues, as the cracking pressure of the MBC/MBC+A is now your base boost."
Yep, I pretty much figured that.. apart from too stiff gives you spikes, and also the consideration that I might want to go back to APC control.
The issue with helper springs relates to a few people who have found that the WGA spring has become too weak to hold higher boost properly. One guy fitted an MBC+A kit, and had to add a slave spring for it to work right. Another guy upgraded his LPT to an FPT and had to do the same. I've heard that years of heat cycling temper the steel spring and change its characteristics.
With mine, it almost seems like the preload is too low and it's wasting all the time maybe.
Anyway, I don't have any external spring fitted right now :)
I'm not looking so much for an uprated actuator, just a replacement actuator - but a Forge one is 100 quid, and a Saab one is about £250 quid!
"What have you done to determine that the BPV is not at fault?"
It's not actually doing anything at the moment, with the MBC+A fitted.
"Have you checked all of the clamped joints on the pipes and hoses?"
I haven't checked the big elbows around the intercooler yet, or the intercooler itself, but I've checked all the other joints. Most of the hoses are new.
Another piece of info that may be relevant - the car feels much better should in the first 20 minutes of driving, which suggests something is heating up somewhere.
