Info I've seen says a wideband can be expected to last somewhere around 40-60K (unleaded), so there is a longevity issue if you only plan to buy one for permanent install on a relatively new car.
The innovate unit can be mounted/unmounted and moved from vehicle to vehicle fairly easily compared to some other solutions...might be one reason...
Anyway, the reason(s) a performance-minded person would run and monitor a wide band setup is not for the same reason(s) an OEM provides their vehicle with a narrowband sensor. For example, max power is found somewhere around 12.4:1 which is way outside what a narrow band can read.
A narrowband IS likely more accurate right at 14.7:1 and is great for telling you if you're running above that or below. But who cares? How much above/below? Who knows, check out the sensor response posted above.
