I have been reading the bulliten boards for a couple of years and greatly appreciate all the knowledge that is shared by those who have a lot of it , especially jak who seems as generous with sharing information as he is knowledgable . However , this is my first posting to saabnet . I have a stock 88 SPG that has failed MA state emissions for high CO " during the cruise portion of the drive cycle " . The same result occurred after my saab only mechanic and I performed tests on various components and replaced some . AMM adjusted , timing checked , cap and rotor replaced , techron added a few times , vent and vacuum hoses and grommets replaced as needed , O2 sensor checked , oil changed and the car has always run great . The car is serviced regularly by my long time saab indy Mecca Motors . The car has about 200k miles on it . Any input would be appreciated , but my specific questions are this : Is this condition often caused by too rich a mixture and if so could I kill two birds with one stone by doing some long awaited performance mods that would increase air flow without doing fuel mods ? More specifically things like turning up the P and F pots a little bit or putting in a better flowing side mount intercooler . If not should I instead try making it leaner by turning the AMM adjustment screw ? How much and in which direction might work ? Can this cause a harmfully overlean condition if done wrong ? I know that the performance mods could cause overlean if not accompanied by fuel mods when neccessary , but can AMM adjustment cause harmfull overlean ? Thank you in advance for your consideration ! John . PS : car run hard before its tests .
