Let's talk custom reinforced tranny box. If you spend any time on here reading about the inherent weaknesses of the SAAB 5 speed box, you'll realize it is one of the key limits to mastering trustworthy, worry-free performancs gains from this car. Makes you almost (almost I said) just scrap the whole plan and go German or Japanese. So what about refabing the box and internals - I mean complete custom redoing, mostly with strengthening and reinforcing in mind. If flexing of the diff housing region is an issue, then be sure the diff area on the new box is thickened and reinforced. How difficult would it be to make molds of the existing box, but then redesigned for the improvements, then recast with the molten metal of your choice. Our forefathers made all sorts of stuff out of molten metal in their back yards. How difficult would it be to find a forge for custom projects like this? I'm being short with the details and over-simplifying the process perhaps, but you get the idea. The point being to just solve the structure weakness issues once and for all. Those who want a true performance modification to the Saab box has to buy the upgraded box for $xxxx, end of story. Crazy?
