Our friend Jak has mentioned wanting to do an all wheel drive mod on a SAAB, but I don't know if he's made any progress or what he's come up with as far as feasibility. I like the idea, but regardless of which engine is used, wouldn't RWD just cause unwanted tire spin under hard acceleration because of the lighter SAAB rear end design? A simpler RWD mod might be to use the existing engine/tranny configuration while mating a drive shaft to the output pinion shaft and extending it back through to the rear, using whatever U-joints, rear diff and axle set-up works. I'm guessing the drive shaft at the forward position would have to be suspended in a bearing somehow, and perhaps the longer drive shaft and rear end differential design would help reduce some of the damaging torque and vibration the stock FWD 5 spd box experiences by having the pinion gear turning the ring gear immediately after exiting the transmission.
