...don't drive a Sonett. Either that or creat a new custom chasis and just use a Sonett skin. Search JAK's posts on the performace BB for a guy who did just that.
Of course a Sonett isn't as safe as a 2006 car, or even a 1980 car. Your concerns hold for my 1971 'Vette too. I prefer the Sonett's roll cage to the 'vette though any day. The point of this BB is restoring and driving a vintage car. You cannot compare a Sonett even with the Saab 99's and 900's, as the Sonett design was from the mid sixties. It is felt that the Sonetts were killed when the 5MPH laws took effect in the USA. Sonetts reportedly could not survive a 5MPH crash without moderate front and rear end damage. That is intrinsic. (That however does not mean the passenger compartment is not safe). A 99 and a 900 are unibody constructed. That design is clearly supperior. You just cannot compare them. They are also heavier, wider, and higher up from the road. They are a different driving experience.
If you are that concerned, I respectfully submit this car might not be for you. I mean you no insult, and I don't mean to start a fight here.
