Ignition switch on 89 9000T

Hi all,

Well this afternoon it happened. The ignition on my wife's car refused to
move out of the lock (off) position. I took the covers off the column but
nothing obvious. Tried a little silicon lube on the key, no avail.  So
unless there is anyone reading this PM with experience in this area I
will be calling my mechanic, and unless he will do a house call, a tow
truck.

Has anyone run into this?  the wheel is locked so straight is the only
option.  Any tricks to get this freed so I can get it to a shop for a
replacement?
