Gearboxes can be had for significantly less, rebuilt and with a
warrantee (albeit not the 12/12k Saab warrantee). $ 1500 installed
Or, if it' sonly reverse gear, yours can probably be rebuilt.

Turbos as well. $1200??? They gilding them these days???

Head gasket, well that's probably a $500 job.

Rebuilt rack about $250, pump can be rebuilt (it's dreadfully easy),
most of the leakage is probably the lines. Figure about $200 for
replacing the lines.

Exhaust heat shield is about $100. installation shouldn't be more than .5 hrs.

Rear brakes with rotors, $300 is about right for a Dealer.

SRS service, well, they have to find out what is wrong. Most likely
culprits: front sensors, spring contact. None are
'serviceable/cleanable'. Figure $100 per part that's bad.

Front tranny mount is about $90-120, but if they're pulling the motor
for the tranny, no extra labor should be charged...

Sway bar bushings about $40 each.

Convertible top: go to a Convertible top specialist yourself. It's
the kind of job that you want people who do it every day to do it,
not once in a while. Price might be about right. But, just how bad is
the 'wearing out'?? Holes? Tears? cuts?

According to http://www.kbb.com , the retail
is about $14,000.

You said it's black with a tan top. Is this one of the Comemmorative editions?

To a Saab Fan, it

might be worth a bit more.

Not all of this work needs to be done at the same time. Painting can
be put off a while, as can the top probably.

I think the car is worth an investment. But probably not with that
particular mechanic.

In the long run, you have to decide if it's worth it to YOU.
